Rack Management System (RMS)
The Rack Management System (RMS) is a networked, modular computer system providing numerous ``real world'' interfaces and 16/32-bit computing power. RMS units are installed in each rack and communicate with each other (and with workstations) by means of the Controller Area Network bus (CAN) to exchange data in an object oriented form. This approach provides each RMS unit with access to global objects and allows to monitor and control the entire system.
The RMS user interface is realized by an RMS control unit within a bench, a remote control unit located in the control mockup center pedestal and an unlimited number of virtual RMS control surfaces which may be displayed on networked workstations. All control units may be operated at the same time and continuously display the system status.
The RMS is expandable and supports up to 200 systems (rack units, control units or workstation interfaces) in the network.
The RMS provides the following functions:
· Temperature monitoring of installed equipment, automatic power shutdown in case of over temperature;
· Current monitoring of installed equipment, automatic power shutdown in case of over current;
· Graphic visualization of current and temperature values;
· Local and remote power supply bus bar switching for the entire installed equipment set;
· User programmable on/off switching sequences and alarm functions;
· Active fan noise reduction by closed loop control of ambient temperature;
· Straightforward and simple user interface.
